Bullseye Mushroom Coral

The Rhodactis Bullseye Mushroom Coral is also known as the Tonga Blue Mushroom. Less commonly, it is referred to as a Hairy or Small Elephant Ear Mushroom. It usually is a violet to blue color, often with margins and highlights of green. It may have a red mouth, has papillae that form cauliflower-like patterns, and can grow up to 3 inches in diameter.

It is very easy to maintain in the reef aquarium and prefers a low water movement. It is less tolerant of bright light compared to other Rhodactis sp., prefering reduced light. It is semi-aggressive and requires adequate space between itself and other corals. Longitudinal fission is the primary means of reproduction.

The symbiotic algae zooxanthellae hosted within its body provide the majority of its nutritional requirements through photosynthesis. It may also eat plankton and small invertebrates.
