Pseudochromis

Usually only a single specimen can be kept in an aquarium. Sometimes multiple specimens can be kept in larger aquariums, but usually this requires them to be added at the same time or they will be too territorial.

The Royal Dottyback (Pictichromis paccagnella), also called the Bicolor Dottyback or False Gramma is a fish commonly kept in marine aquariums. The front of the fish is bright purple and the posterior is yellow. In an aquarium, it will grow up to three inches long. The Dottyback will defend their territory against fish several times its size, but gets along with many other common aquarium fish. It can grow up to 6 cm in length.

Fridmani Pseudochromis is a hardy member of a saltwater aquarium. As one of the few saltwater fish that can be bred in captivity. Use of tank bred individuals in aquariums is encouraged to reduce the pressure on wild populations. Thirty gallons is typically quoted as the minimum tank size required to permanently house this fish.

It is a moderately aggressive fish which will sometimes harass small, passive, fish and shrimp. It can be quite territorial meaning it is best to only keep one in an aquarium. If more than one is kept in an aquarium it is important that they are added at the same time. Despite its hardy nature, it also must not be placed in an aquarium with larger predatory fish such as lion fish, and grouper which will often see it as a food source.

This is one of those fish that people were drooling over for years before it was ever available to the trade! Great for the reef or fish only aquarium. Harmless to corals but may eat small crustaceans. Can be aggressive with small similarly shaped fishes. Super easy to care for. Average size is around 2", availability is unpredictable, jump on them fast when available.
